Cupcake Love Cabo, a new, small, woman-owned business, will deliver tasty treats to your condo, hotel room or villa in Los Cabos.

When we recently visited Los Cabos a thoughtful friend surprised us with a tray of absolutely delicious cupcakes delivered to our hotel room. Decorative icing on top spelled out the word BIENVENIDOS (Welcome, in Spanish).

Our welcome gift

Our welcome gift

Among the many reasons we love returning to this area is the warmth of the Mexican people. Over the years, we’ve made friends with workers at restaurants and resorts who couldn’t be nicer and more solicitous of visitors. This has been particularly true after the devastation of Hurricane Odile.

Getting back to the cupcakes, these were light, moist and delicious with a candy filling inside. Moreover, when we learned that the welcome gift was hand-baked with love, it felt very personal.

The impossible-to-resist cupcake

Our cupcake treats were baked by Paola Camarena, an enterprising resident of Cabo San Lucas who started her business, Cupcake Love Cabo, out of her home—a business that is truly local. Paola makes these and decorative cakes for any occasion and delivers them to customer’s homes, businesses or hotel rooms at no additional charge.

Paola learned to bake by standing in the kitchen beside her grandmother and mother. Her products also display her own creativity, artistry and whimsy. Now she is teaching her daughters Benver and Afrika, ages 15 and 3, to carry out the family tradition.

Some credit the origins of the cupcake boom to New York City’s Magnolia Bakery, which was popularized on Sex & The City in the year 2000. The demand for these single-portion delectables subsequently spread like wildfire across cities throughout the U.S. and has now slowly crossed the border to Los Cabos, Mexico.

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, it’s a great way to say “I Love You” to a friend or partner who is visiting the Los Cabos area. The cupcakes also are a perfect way to commemorate a special birthday or anniversary. They also make a great dessert for sweet-lovers or treat for visiting children or grandchildren.

*We are grateful to our friend, Andres Bedolla Duran, for the gift of his friendship and his always warm welcome to Los Cabos—but this one was more special!
