Need an antidote to winter? A girlfriend getaway at Borgata offers some of the best spa treatments, dining, and entertainment in Atlantic City.

Women of all ages yearn for a restorative and relaxing escape with their besties, especially during the winter months when the days are short and the air is frigid.

A landmark 2007 study by the AAA and Aspire was one of the first to identify the growing popularity of girlfriend getaways. But (2024) data from Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) suggests that the trend has exploded since then, with 73 percent of women planning female-only escapes.

Who Needs A Girlfriend Getaway at Borgata?

Most women do: Young, old, middle-aged, single, married, or partnered.

Girlfriend getaways appeal to women who work long hours, moms seeking a respite from the grind of juggling caregiving for children and parents, and anyone else simply craving the conviviality of female friendships.

No excuse is needed to carve out time to recharge and reconnect with friends, and girlfriend getaways are also a memorable way to celebrate milestones such as a birthday, a bridal shower, graduation, or a promotion at work.

The Case for Closer-to-Home Getaways

During winter, many people think about escaping to warm-weather destinations, such as beach resorts or Caribbean cruises. However, the cost of travel (especially airfare) can be daunting during prime seasons. Moreover, conflicting calendar commitments can make it difficult to schedule more than a couple of nights or a long weekend away from home.

Although it may sound counterintuitive, closer-to-home getaways can be just as rewarding.

For those living on the East Coast, the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa is an ideal drive-to location for a girlfriend getaway: It’s about one hour from Philly, two hours from NYC, 2.5 hours from Baltimore, and just over three hours from Washington, DC.

While your tribe probably won’t want to walk on the iconic Atlantic City boardwalk or feel the white beach sand between their toes, they’ll find no shortage of interesting things to do inside the Borgata.

Everything A Girl Wants On A Girlfriend Getaway

Even close friends have different interests, sleep-wake cycles, activity levels, and budgets, so one essential element of a successful girlfriend getaway is choice. The Borgata offers something for everyone.

This luxury property, the largest hotel in New Jersey, comprises two connected towers, each with a different ambiance. For a lively experience, the central Borgata Tower is steps from the Casino and in the midst of all the action. The recently renovated, boutique-style MGM Tower offers a more sedate atmosphere with skyline views.

Groups can choose spacious single- or double-room options, or luxurious suites that accommodate up to four guests. One of the 1,000-square-foot Opus Suites, with a living room and dining area, can serve as a private gathering space.

Top-Tier Entertainment and Gambling

Concerts and events at the Borgata feature top-tier entertainers. Many groups choose to schedule their getaways to coincide with their favorite performers. For example, in February 2026, guests can get tickets for Trevor Noah or Dancing with the Stars Live.

Cocktails or wine can be enjoyed at the hotel’s trendy Wine Bar and Italian Kitchen tucked away from the casino floor, the energetic Long Bar, B Bar in the heart of the Casino, or at the Lobby Piano Bar, which features live music.

Borgata is best known for its Casino, one of the largest in Atlantic City, with 180 tables and over 2,500 slot machines. Newly renovated, it gives any Las Vegas casino a run for its money.

There’s no need to look outside the door for good food when the weather is inclement. The Borgata Buffet, American Bar & Grill, Noodles (an Asian Fusion restaurant) and The Metropolitan offer a variety of culinary adventures. In addition, coffee lovers can order specialty coffees at the Lavazza Bar.

Food enthusiasts will want to experience the dinner party feel of the B-Prime Steakhouse, indulge in southern Italian fare at Angeline by Michael Symon (the Iron Chef and James Beard award winner), and enjoy steaks at the venerable Old Homestead, a sibling of the NYC institution that is one of the country’s oldest steakhouses.

The Moondeck, open only in winter, may be one of the coziest and most memorable places for bonding on the property. Each winter, the outdoor pool deck transforms into a winter wonderland featuring five heated chalets. In addition to charcuterie, hummus boards, and decorative dessert boards, friends can chat and reminisce over Polar Espresso Martinis or Moondeck Hot Cocoas. The dining igloos are uber-comfy with couches, ottomans, blankets and faux fireplace heaters.

And, of course, there is 24-hour room service on weekends.

If someone has won big at the casino or simply wants to splurge, the Borgata has its own collection of upscale boutiques, jewelry and shoe stores, and clothes and accessory shops. There is even a place to shop for high-end, lightly used, vintage handbags and purses, and opportunities to buy last-minute gifts for children or to thank the boyfriends, husbands or babysitters who enabled your getaway.

To complete the recharge, girlfriends will want to book massages or facials at Spa Toccare, which has 31 treatment rooms. Afterwards, they can unwind and spend time at the indoor pool and gardens at the Borgata at one of the two heated indoor pools at the recently refreshed MGM Tower. The Intangible Rewards of a Winter Girlfriend Getaway at Borgata

Friendships, whether between two besties or a larger group, require ongoing attention and dedicated quality time to thrive, as memories alone are insufficient to maintain them.

It is a common misconception that prioritizing self-care or time with friends is self-indulgent, especially when balanced against work and family responsibilities. However, nothing could be further from the truth. A growing body of research shows that strong friendships are crucial to our health, happiness, and overall well-being, ultimately enabling us to be better mothers, partners, and employees.

Once the valet parks your car, a winter getaway to the Borgata offers a simple and convenient way to gather your close friends and strengthen these essential bonds.
