Read my review of the Otterbox Resurgence Power Case and enter for a chance to win one for your smartphone.
When you spend a day touring a new city, it can be frustrating to discover your cellphone battery has run out of battery juice.
You don’t even have to be far from home for this to happen. When I take the 50-minute train ride from my home and spend the day in New York City, my iPhone battery is often dead before I make it home.
If you are smartphone dependent like me, being unable to use your phone can seriously rattle your nerves. I worry about what to do if I have to make an emergency call…if I get lost and need an online map for directions…if I want to snap a photo?
Because I’ve experienced this angst so many times, I purchased an inexpensive, cylinder-shaped portable charger at TJ Maxx to carry with me—just in case. Unfortunately, it didn’t solve the problem: The portable charger was heavy in my purse; I often forget to recharge it before its next use; and honestly, I often forgot to take the extra piece of electronics with me.
An elegant solution
The Otterbox Resurgence Power Case is an elegant solution for anyone who worries about running out of cell phone battery power. The slim case, only slightly larger than the iPhone, comes partially charged when you take it out of its box.
It comes with written directions but using it is pretty intuitive. You simply snap the two-piece case onto to your iPhone 5 or 5S, and charge the phone and the case (at once) with the high-speed charging cord provided.
Using the case (which has a built-in Lithium battery)
doubles your battery life!
I absolutely love it!
How it works
When you’re away from your source of power, the case starts charging your phone after the phone battery runs out. When you recharge your phone, both the case and the phone are fully recharged again.
An LED display on the bottom right corner of the case displays the amount of charge you have left in the case.
Another worry assuaged: The military-rated Otterbox case also protects your smartphone should you inadvertently drop it.
The power case comes in black, glacier (gray), satin rose and teal. I chose teal because my phone was always winding up buried somewhere in my purse. The light color is easier to find.
Two relatively minor downsides:
- The case makes your phone slightly heavier but after a couple of weeks of use, the difference becomes imperceptible.
- You must use the power cord that comes with the case rather than the original cord that comes with the iPhone.
Through the end of September 2014, anyone who leaves a comment below naming the color (black, glacier, satin rose or teal) Otterbox Resurgence Power Case they would like to win will be eligible to be selected in a random drawing sponsored by MoreTimeToTravel.com in partnership with Otterbox.
The contest winner will be announced here on October 2, 2014. (Sorry, this offer is limited to U.S. addresses only.)
