The AAA Four-Diamond Ann’s Point Inn is among the top-ranked properties in Bass Harbor, Maine on TripAdvisor. A few weeks ago, the Inn held a special two-day cooking retreat led by Chef James Lindquist of Red Sky Restaurant.

Located on Mount Desert Island near Acadia National Park, the Inn’s kitchen overlooks the lobster boats in the harbor. Eight guests worked beside Chef James and his sous-chef to prepare a menu that included gyoza dumplings stuffed with just-picked oyster mushrooms and Napa cabbage, steamed clams and mussels over freshly made pasta, fresh halibut with a triple citrus beurre blanc, and a whole-shucked lobster with asparagus atop mushroom risotto. They used seawater and seaweed from the harbor in front of the inn to steam the lobster.

“After prepping the halibut, Chef James laid the skin on a rock along the shore where it was promptly grabbed by a diving eagle,” says Alan Feuer, the Inn’s owner, who is a former computer science professor. “It was unforgettable!”

Based on the success of the event, it will be repeated this fall. If you are looking for a unique and intimate cooking experience in a relaxed setting, an encore retreat will be held at Ann’s Point Inn on October 14-16, 2013. See their website for details.
