In a small hamlet like the one where we currently live, celebrity sightings are relatively rare.

President Bill Clinton, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, comedian and filmmaker Ben Stiller, and actress Vanessa William are a few of the celebs who live in Chappaqua (Westchester County, New York). Occasionally we (and others) spot them around town (at Starbuck’s, the nail shop, etc.) each time sparking a tinge of excitement. However, places like Manhattan and LA are decidedly true celebrity meccas where sightings are more frequent. When we recently toured Rockefeller Center, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow was rushing in the door as we were leaving. We once passed by Chris Rock in the first-class section of a plane as we headed to Economy.

This morning, one of our hyper-local new publications mentioned an interesting website,, which maintains a database of TV and film locations–allowing the star-struck to vastly improve their odds of a celebrity sighting. It lists places where stars are filming. For example, Tom Hank and Meryl Streep are now filming a Steven Spielberg film in a nearby town. While I wasn’t intrigued enough to track down the stars, I did take a peek at the website, which seems to rely on crowd-sourced information.

Some sections of the site don’t appear to be updated but the vertical entitled Travel Inspiration offers some interesting possibilities for star-struck travelers. For example, it mentioned that fans of Nashville can rent the Deacon’s house on Airbnb, told about a Dirty Dancing Summer Festival being held in Lake Lure, North Carolina, and noted the Canadian locations where The Handmaid’s Tales was filmed.

Certainly not a website to rely upon as a trip planner but fun to glance at now and then!
