SideTrak Swivel Review (2025): Why Travelers Need This Second Screen
I’m addicted to using two screens on my desktop, so I was glad to have the opportunity to try the SideTrak Swivel and offer my unbiased review.
What is the SideTrak Swivel?
The Luxor SideTrak Swivel is a portable monitor that easily attaches and detaches from your laptop to use as a second screen.
It comes in several different sizes to accommodate different laptops and user needs: 15.6”, 13.3,” and 12.5 inches.
It’s lightweight (1.5 pounds), attachable, and has a 360-degree swivel hinge for adjustable viewing. It’s compatible with Mac, Windows, and Chrome OS laptops.
Why Does Anyone Need A Second Screen?
As a travel writer, I spend time researching information, verifying names and dates, and curating photos as I write stories and prepare blog or social media posts.
Instead of switching tabs continuously, I’ve found that using a second monitor is a more efficient way to work. It’s easy to get addicted to two monitors: When I had to rely on my laptop, without a second screen, I felt like I was missing a crucial tool.
But you don’t have to be a travel writer. Any traveler or digital nomad will love this productivity tool.
How Do You Set Up the SideTrak Swivel?
In one word: The setup was seamless.
The monitor was extremely easy to install because I peeled the backing off a small magnetic plate, and the monitor bracket snapped onto the plate. No additional software or tools are required.
It attaches to your laptop magnetically. In addition to the clear written instructions that come in the box, an online video demonstrates a simple installation that only took a matter of minutes to follow.
The monitor comes with a cable that connects it to your laptop. Depending on your preference, you can attach it to the left or right side of your computer.
As soon as I turned on my computer screen, the SideTrak turned on simultaneously, automatically, ready to go.
How Does The SideTrak Swivel Work?
If you tend to multitask and use multiple tabs, you’ll appreciate having the extra screen. If you are an older person, like me, you’ll appreciate not having to rely on your memory of the spelling of a complex term in another tab.
An innovative swivel feature allows the second screen to partner beside your laptop. It also provides the flexibility to use it in portrait or landscape mode without having to make any adjustments. The vertical mode is ideal for reading long articles.
The screen quality, 1080p resolution, performs just as well as does the screen on my Apple laptop. The screen features an anti-glare coating with an ultra-thin bezel and can be adjusted for brightness.
With a slim design, the simple fold-in feature, and weighing less than two pounds, the monitor is very portable, and I wouldn’t hesitate to take it with me on any bleisure trip.
The Drawbacks
As expected, the use of a second screen tends to drain a laptop battery more quickly. But this wasn’t a problem for me because I tend to use the second screen when my computer is plugged into an electrical outlet, at home or away.
While the 15.6-inch screen offers excellent real estate for my work, I probably would have preferred the smaller screen size. This one doesn’t fit into the protective sleep I generally travel with, although it fits handily into the Caraa travel bag I take with me on trips.
Next time, I would opt for the smallest screen size for travel (12″).
Who Will Find The SideTrak Swivel Useful?
Any traveler, especially someone who travels for bleisure, coupling work and leisure, will find a SideTrak Swivel useful. It will also appeal to students, gamers, or any hybrid workers. It makes a perfect gift for birthdays, graduation or the holidays.
It works as well on someone’s lap as it does on a flat surface.
I think I’ve developed another screen addiction.
