Pink spritz cocktails

Sparkling drinks speak to summer, especially pink ones. One evocative sip can transport us to faraway places.

The rosé spritz: A riff on an old standard

The effervescent Spritz cocktail has a long history that dates back to the time when Austrian soldiers in Italy during the war added a splash of water (spritz, in German) to dilute the local wines.

Recipe for a Simple Spritz

The most basic recipe for a more contemporary spritz is as follows:

  • 3 parts Prosecco (Italian sparkling wine)
  • 2 parts bitter liqueur (like Aperol or Campari)
  • 1 part soda

These bubbly drinks have become uber-popular all over the world because they are so drinkable. In addition, they have a lower alcohol content and are less caloric than hard liquors and many traditional cocktails. They are favored as before-dinner drinks as well as at festive occasions.

With their popularity, bartenders, liquor companies and home mixologists have added innovative twists to the basic recipe, including pink cocktails.

What are the ingredients of a pink rosé spritz?

Some of the prettiest spritzes happen to be pink, either because they are made with Pink Champagne or Rosé Prosecco, or they’re made with rosé wine mixed with some other bubbly beverage (usually mineral or tonic water, or club soda).

While most people associate rosé wines with the south of France, Italy is also an epicenter of rosé wine production. Rosato (translated literally, as “pinkish”) is considered the Italian equivalent of rosé wine (or rosado wine in Portugal and Spain) because it shares the same production methods and pinkish hue.

Rosé Prosecco is a relatively new product on the market. Although the Italian government only began exporting pink Prosecco (Prosecco DOC Rosé) in 2020, this sparkling wine category has grown to be popular with consumers.

Home mixologists will find an infinite number of recipes for rosé spritz and other pink cocktails online but with a little bit of creativity, they can develop or adapt their own.

The rosé spritz cocktail recipes below will wow your guests and inspire you to create your own signature “house drink.”
