More great hotel bathrooms (Part 2)

January 10, 2014

An inside peek at some of the great hotel bathrooms we’ve visited in Mexico, the Caribbean and Africa

Continuing our ode to great hotel bathrooms, here is the second part of the series:

MEXICO

Hotel Matilda

San Miguel de Allende, Mexico

The emphasis at this one-of-a-kind boutique hotel is on art, even in the bar bathroom. The wallpaper was created using Spencer Tunick’s photography of 18,000 nudes in Zócalo (Mexico City.) Tunick is a frequent guest there.

Las Ventanas al Paraiso, a Rosewood Resort

Los Cabos, Mexico

With filtered sunlight coming in through the window, this oversized tub was especially inviting. There was also a separate marble shower.

One & Only Palmilla

Los Cabos, Mexico

The colorful Mexican tilework around the tub area looked beautiful with the light streaming in the bathroom window.

Zoetry Paraiso de la Bonita

Riviera Maya, Mexico

The suites at this resort are beautifully decorated and filled with art, including two signed glass bowls in each bathroom. No two are exactly alike and each one costs more than $1000.

Secrets The Vine

Cancun, Mexico

The views from this tub, surrounded by a bed of stones, were nothing short of jaw dropping. I could simultaneously see the bay and the Caribbean. There was also a double shower behind the tub.

Huatulco, Mexico

I love the clean design of these double sinks. As part of its bathroom amenities, Secrets Resorts provides guests with their branded suntan lotion and after-sun moisturizer.

AFRICA

Hemingways Nairobi

Nairobi, Kenya

At this 45-room boutique property just outside the city, the huge bathroom with sinks at both sides included great closet space.

Mahali Mzuri

Masaai Mara, Africa

In Richard Branson’s new luxury tented camp in the Motorogi Conservancy, the en-suite bathroom includes a clawfoot tub. While you are bathing, you are likely to see animals grazing in the rolling plains outside the window. The whimsical rubber duckie was a great touch, too.

JAMAICA

Goldeneye Hotel and Resort

St. Mary Parish, Jamaica

This alfresco bath area at the Ian Fleming Villa is nothing short of amazing. The tropical patio has a shower, outdoor clawfoot tub and sink. Fleming wrote 14 James Bond adventure novels (one each winter) in this villa. Every writer eventually needs a shower.

Do you swoon over great hotel bathrooms as much as I do?

I’m intrigued by the Ian Fleming bath. I love his books, but that’s a bit to open air for me. Is there a sturdy fence surrounding this bath?

There were more conventional bathrooms inside, too!
The area was secluded enough, too, that someone would really have to be looking to spot someone in that bath!
