It’s time to get a seat at the table for discount dining during Hudson Valley Restaurant Week (November 3-16)~
As nice as it is to sample new restaurants when traveling, it can be equally rewarding to find a culinary gem closer to home, one you can return to over and over.
Restaurant Week, which takes place twice a year in many locations across the country, is a great time to try new restaurants and new dishes.
In my backyard, during Hudson Valley Restaurant Week, locals and visitors can savor the bounty of the Hudson River Valley at two hundred different locations on both sides of the river for $20.95 at lunch or $29.95 at dinner.
Th lengthy list of participating restaurants can be sorted by county, cuisine or town; many are conveniently reached from New York City via the Metro-North railroad.
A few tips to get the biggest bang for your buck during restaurant week:
Because tables fill quickly, find out which restaurants are participating and make reservations early. You can often book reservations online through Open Table.
Do some legwork before you book. Use whatever restaurant rating system you prefer (e.g. Yelp, MenuPages, Chowhound Google or Zagat)—or rely on your own network of friends and family.
Read the fine print. The availability of the fixed price menus varies by restaurant and certain meals or days (e.g. Saturday nights) may be excluded. Beverages, tax and tips are generally NOT included.
Extend your comfort zone by trying more than one restaurant. You may find a new-to-you type of cuisine to enjoy.
