Homewood Suites is the newest extended stay property to open in New York City.
Homewood Suites by Hilton recently added the first New York City property to its portfolio of more than 350 all-suite, extended-stay hotels. Conveniently located three blocks from Times Square, Madison Square Garden and Penn Station, the new 22-story, 293-suite Homewood Suites New York/Midtown Manhattan was constructed on the site of a former parking lot in the Garment District.
Each contemporary guestroom has separate living and sleeping areas as well as kitchenettes with microwaves, two-burner electric stoves, dishwashers and full-sized refrigerators. The high-ceilinged suites are 25 percent larger than the average hotel room in the city. The property also has a workout room, 24-hour convenience shop, complimentary grocery shopping service, and outdoor relaxation areas on both the patio and rooftop.
The Homewood Suites brand is known for value-added amenities, which include complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi; daily hot breakfasts; and dinner buffets (with complimentary wine and beer) from Mondays through Thursdays, served in a homelike dining area off the Lobby.
Over the past two decades, extended stay properties have been one of the fastest growing segments of the hotel industry nationwide, attracting more than $1 billion in investments in 2012 alone, according to industry publication Hotel News Now. These apartment-like properties appeal especially to families traveling with small children and people working away from home for extended periods.
AKA has already opened upscale extended-stay properties in four Manhattan neighborhoods: Central Park, Times Square, Sutton Place and the United Nations. It will be opening another in the Financial District in summer 2015.
New York City is also seeing the rapid growth of extended stay properties in the outer boroughs. Home2 Suites by Hilton just opened this summer in Long Island City, Queens; a Residence Inn will be opening in Lower Manhattan (Broadway at Maiden Lane) in October; Cambria Suites will open on West 28th Street in Chelsea in November, and another Residence Inn will open in The Bronx in December.
