I recently wrote about five places to find dazzling jewelry in New York City for Mastercard Priceless Cities, a program that helps cardholders explore and find special offers in major cities around the world.
Of course, there is no shortage of places to find baubles and gems in New York City, whether you’re looking for designer, discount or vintage pieces. The diamond district on 47th Street (between Fifth and Sixth Avenues) is known throughout the world for its wholesale and retail offerings. It’s estimated that this area alone accounts for 90% of all diamonds reaching the U.S. enter through New York.
But there are also many “precious” retail emporiums and one-of-a-kind design studios and shops scattered throughout Manhattan and the outer boroughs. One of my favorite NYC jewelry haunts is Fifth Avenue where you can window-shop at world class stores like Tiffany’s, Bulgari, and Cartier.
In researching this piece, I interviewed a cousin who is intimately involved in and knowledgeable about the jewelry industry. In the article I describe five fun places to visit or shop—and conclude that the problem of shopping for jewelry in New York City is most likely to be one of over-choice.
Read the Mastercard article in its entirety, which offers suggestions for shopping for that special gift for yourself or a friend.
