If you’re traveling anywhere in the U.S. this summer, you may want to take a peek at the free 68-page culinary guide just released by Brand USA, Discover America: Great American Food Stories.
The new guide is divided by region of the country. Each section includes an overview of its regional cuisine (with photography that will whet your appetite); several recipes showcasing traditional foods and ingredients; and information about regional events and food festivals.
“American cuisine captures inspiration from all over the world, truly embodying the diversity and history of the United States,” said Christopher L. Thompson, President and CEO of Brand USA. “We’re excited to invite travelers to experience the culinary highlights of each region of the country.”
One limitation of the culinary guide: It does not include suggestions of restaurants and food emporiums worth visiting in each region, which could have been useful addition for tourists. Yet it’s a breezy read for those who love food and the recipes, contributed by 31 James Beard affiliated chefs, will certainly be inspiring to the home cook interested in preparing regional American dishes.
Brand USA is the public-private partnership responsible for promoting the United States as a premier travel destination. The Department of State’s Diplomatic Culinary Partnership, established in 2012 in cooperation with the James Beard Foundation, collaborated with Brand USA to produce the guide, which is published in six languages.
