The new Delta in-flight safety video pokes fun at the holiday season and keeps flyers engaged with the message.
It’s a good idea to add some humor to the in-flight safety videos that are aired each time we fly. Although they contain vital information and reminders, they have become so routine and pro-forma that many passengers tune them out entirely.
In case you wondered, these demonstrations are required to meet international air safety standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization and by national authorities. They offer important information for first-time flyers as well as for frequent flyers, who can’t be familiar with all the safety features of different airplanes.
The first time I saw a humorous in-flight safety video was on a Swiss International Airlines flight I took earlier this year but apparently, they have been around since 2009. The captivating animation of the Swiss International video kept me engaged until the end.
More recently, I viewed a New Zealand Air inflight-safety video that made me cringe. Since it went viral, I guess there was a huge group of people who thought otherwise. I felt that it’s humor came at the expense of older people who were presented as deaf and feeble.
Well I think the new holiday in-flight safety video from Delta that features seasonal characters is a winner—that gets it right. It’s informative and humorous without being offensive.
Take a peek and tell me what you think?
