Win a Solo tote, perfect for travel, in an easy-to-enter giveaway.
Call me old-fashioned. When Solo (an urban lifestyle brand based in New York) offered me the opportunity to pick a tote for review and for a reader giveaway on MoreTimeToTravel, I chose one from Solo’s “Vintage Collection.” The Solo Laptop Carryall is the perfect tote for any female travel aficionado, particularly those of us of a certain age.
With its classic design, it is large and roomy enough (although not too large) to carry everything you want to keep at hand (your phone, wallet, passport, notepad, pens and any other small items you pick up en route.) The full-grain leather comes in a rich, dark brown-black espresso color that complements almost any travel attire.
Here are some of the features that make it perfect for frequent travelers:
1) Fully-zippered top
Nothing is likely to slip out when you tuck it under the airline seat in front of you. Equally important: The full closure also discourages pickpockets from reaching in when you’re in crowded places (e.g. sightseeing or waiting on queues).
2) Long double handles
The leather handles have a generous drop (so they’ll even fit over a heavy coat). They are also nicely padded so they fit comfortably on your shoulders. If you’ve overstuffed your tote (which happens to the best of us), you’ll appreciate the “Rear Ride Along” band. You simply unzip the bottom and you can place the bag over the telescoping handle of your carryon or suitcase so you don’t have to carry it.
3) Laptop Pocket
The padded protective pocket is spacious enough to fit any laptop up to 15.6.” It’s also easily accessible when you have to take your laptop out for TSA screening. Simply lift the Velcro tab that keeps it in place.
The bag can do double-duty as a purse and briefcase. Often, personal items get lost or buried in a tote. But the laptop carryall’s bright blue lining makes it easy to see what you have (unlike black linings that often become black holes). A secure zippered interior pocket keeps your passport and wallet (and any other valuables) secure. At least five open “grab” pockets and two pen holders provide easy access to items you want to keep close at hand.
5) Style & Cost
The Solo Laptop Carryall sells for $69.99 on Amazon and is also carried by a large number of national retailers. Considering that the tote is leather rather than vinyl, and is so nicely styled (with tasteful antique brass hardware and protective feet on the bottom), it is a great value. The bag also comes with a 5-year limited warranty.
