Leave a comment below to win a 4-pack of DK Eyewitness Travel Guides for Italy, London, New York City and Paris (valued at $100).

The venerable travel guide publisher, DK Eyewitness Travel Guides, has just updated, revised, and fully redesigned their 2014 guides for four iconic destinations: Italy, London, New York City and Paris.

You may already have plans to visit one or more of these destinations over the summer. Even if you aren’t planning a trip, these inspiring guides will make for great armchair reading. You’ll fall in love with their attractive, easy-to-read layouts accompanied by beautiful photography and illustrations.

The emphasis is on the practical: The update includes themed itineraries to help you plan your trip as well as improved neighborhood walking maps that include restaurant locations, by area. The hotel and restaurant lists (plotted on maps) have been curated by professional travel writers, many of whom live in the places they write about.

I was provided with one guidebook for review and chose the 2014 Italy Guide. Headed to Venice, for example? This 3-D views of the Gothic Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari church or the street-by-street diagram of Piazza San Marco point out the essentials a tourist shouldn’t miss and offer some historical and cultural background to ground your visit.

Having visited the Palazzo Ducale several years ago, I loved the pages of the guide that allowed me the unique perspective of being able to peer in through the top.

Even if you’ve been there, done that, you’ll also enjoy browsing the guides to recollect memories of past visits. Don’t be surprised if you discover some things you’ve missed!

The books are available for purchase from DK, a division of Penguin Random House.

THE GIVEAWAY

The publisher (DK) has agreed to mail a set of the new 4-pack of DK Eyewitness Guides to one lucky reader of More Time to Travel.

  1. Well I’ve been to all of those place but I still feel like I haven’t cracked the surface of Paris. I’d love more tips.

  2. Don S says:

Despite having lived in the US for a few years I have not yet made it to NY, but it is definitely on the “to do” list, so maybe a guide book would help me get there a bit quicker.

  3. I’ve been to all four places, and would like to visit all again, but first on my list would be Italy. I’d visit the hill towns I’d missed in Tuscany,go 30 miles miles outside Rome to Ostia Antica, the 2,000 year old harbor city of ancient Rome, return to Lake Como, Siena, and hike from town to town on the Cinque Terre. Back in Rome I’d do any of the walking tours I hadn’t taken, and repeat a walk through the central Rome at night when lights shine on the fountains.

  4. Julia says:

I would love to visit Italy. We were hoping to go this year for our 25th anniversary, but some medical issues meant that we will have to put the trip off for a bit. I already have the DK books for Paris and London (and love them!) so the Italy book would be wonderful to help us plan.

  18. Charlotte Macpherson says:

I’ve been twice to Paris, once to Rome and have an upcoming second trip to London. I am embarrassed to admit that I’ve never been to New York City! I would love to see where my grandparents came into this country for the first time; I would absolutely love to see a few Broadway shows; see Central Park and all of the absolutely gorgeous architecture in New York City! And also, of course, the Statue of Liberty! I would also include a visit to the new 9/11 Museum to pay tribute.
