About

IreneWebsite1 AboutThanks for visiting my newest website, More Time to Travel, which is still a work in progress. If you’re lucky enough, as I am, life entails learning how to juggle work, family, friends, travel, and “stuff” in just the right proportions. I’m working on it!

Some of my recent articles are already posted on the site and I will continue to add more over the coming months (in between trips, of course), including some great photography. Going forward, you’ll be able to see 10–15 of my new travel articles here each month, soon after they are published in print and online publications.

I was a Gold Award winner of the North American Travel Journalists Association Competition for article published in 2011, and just won Gold, Silver and Bronze awards for articles published in 2012, as well as two honorable mentions in other categories.

Yes, I do have an unusual background for a travel writer—a long and distinguished career as a psychologist and health professional, another decade in research and communications, and another decade learning the trade of being a freelance writer and author. Now don’t start counting—some of them overlapped as I moonlighted! My life experiences and rich academic and professional background have shaped the person I am, as well as the way I think and write about travel. Hopelessly addicted to social media, you’ll find my byline cropping up in many places. I blog, I tweet, I friend, and I play Words with Friends.
